Nothing says summer quite like a white dress, and I’m liking the juxtaposition of a sweet white dress with chunky black sandals. This dress is romantic, floaty, and light as air — but the chunky fisherman sandals give the look a bit of edge which I find to be really invigorating.
I found myself intrigued by fisherman sandals shortly after The Row released theirs in 2019. When I saw that Ref had released a fisherman sandal this year, I knew it was the pair I’d been waiting for — right price, right quality, right design. Ref gets their shoe proportions so right. It’s not too wide, the straps aren’t gaping anywhere — the sandal is somehow chunky and svelte at the same time.
I was nervous that they would be blister city, but nope. I had one hot spot the first time I wore them, but I just applied some moleskin padding to the shoe in that spot and haven’t had an issue since. They are a little on the heavy side, similar to Dr Martens, but I find them very comfortable (and secure!) to walk in.
