Urban Meyer Does Not Like You Questioning His Authori-tah

Apparently winning two national titles in three years makes you a Golden God whose farts smell like roses and can do no wrong. At least, that seems to be the mindset of Urban Meyer these days.
Shane Matthews, who quarterbacked for Florida in the early 90’s and now hosts his own radio show, criticized Meyer’s game strategy after Florida’s upset loss to Ole Miss last fall:
“When I watched the Ole Miss game and Ole Miss played our wide receivers about 90 percent man-to-man, it was a slap in the face to our wide receivers and passing game. I can’t understand why we didn’t take advantage of that,” Matthews said at the time, according to the report.
This led to Meyer indirectly responding to such criticism at a recent “Gator Club” event by channeling a certain past U.S. President’s remarks:
“If you want to be critical of a player on our team or a coach on our team you can buy a ticket for seat 37F, you’re not welcome back in the football office,” Meyer said, according to the report. “You’re either a Gator or you’re not a Gator.”
Word of advice to Coach Meyer: How about listening to what these ex-Gators have to say? After all, they ARE the ones who actually played for Florida, not to mention many of them have diplomas on their walls at home that say “The University of Florida.” These former players BLEED Blue and Orange and want to see this program succeed as much as you do. To suggest otherwise makes you look like an abrasive jackass who thinks he is above and beyond the program and any constructive criticism that comes his way.
I also find it hypocritical that someone like yourself, who only spent two years at each of your previous head coaching jobs in Utah and Bowling Green is questioning an ex-player’s loyalty to his alma mater. Get over yourself. Otherwise, you’d better keep on hauling in those SEC/national championships because if you don’t, then your abrasiveness will eventually become your downfall: Just ask Billy Gillispie.
